Esko Männikkö
Last weekend in Torino I went to check out the new exhibition 'Indagini di un cane' at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, and here is a few artists I noticed apart from the usual contemporary 'rock stars'...such as Maurizio Cattelan Mark Dion William Kentridge Jeff Koons Bruce Nauman Santiago Sierra Kara Walker...and many others.
First of all, the photos by Finnish artist Esko Männikkö were beautiful, he takes photos that portray people in and around their homes in the north of Finland...
They r just so vivid and real...They could look like social documents and much of their force lies in their extraordinary compositions. Männikkö carefully arranges the person and placed objects around them. He uses doorways, furnishings, coloured painted walls to make a kind of frame for his subjects.
