Vice Photo Issue '10

I found the new Vice Issue in one of those trendy 'underground' wannabe shops in a'dam the other day. The Magazine just presented its annual Photo Issue and this year they focused on ugly non sense still lifes with a so called 'contemporary look'. Some of the best photographers from all over the world contributed to this Photo Issue, amongst them are Ryan McGinley,Martin Parr, Spike Jonze, Simon Wald-Lasowski and Richard Kern and a whole bunch of other talented photographers.
Along with the release of their latest issue, Vice opened an exhibition at Amsterdam’s West Indisch Pakhuis, through August 6th.

Oliviero Toscani for Blend Mag

I was reading an interview of controversial photographer Oliviero Toscani on Blend Magazine and here are some interesting insights of what the photographer was saying:
'...I don't do advertising, I take pictures...I think it's a shame because advertising is so boring and it can be so interesting. They should ask more artists to make interesting campaigns. You can go to the movies and really learn something, and advertising can to that well, but it hardly ever happens....Women's magazines are mostly about the outside and not about the inside. About the make-up instead of arts and literature. Its such a shame...'

Maurizio Cattelan @ Museum Boymans van Beuningen

At Museum Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam I was surpized to see Cattelan's figure coming out of a hole in the floor into the classics gallery . He looks in a sharp way at a painting of the 19th century master Koekoek and the obvious solemn authority of the Old Art is ironised in a subtle way.
This is the most expensive work of the living artist, worth 7,92 million dollars. The work was showed for the first time in 2001.

Untitled, Martin Margiela

Belgian fashion designer Maison Martin Margiela came up with new fragrance that captures boxwood, galbanum, bitter orange and incense, along with jasmine, cedar and musk. The fragrance reinterprets aromas of greenery after rain. The nose behind this fragrance is Daniele Andrier and the flacon was created by Fabien Baron.

Olafur Eliasson @ Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam

The big success of Notion motion, 2005 is showed again at the Boijmans Van Beuningen museum in Rotterdam I went to see the other day. Notion motion by Olafur Eliasson consists of three parts that interact between water, light and the viewer. Eliasson as always has created an enchanting work where the viewer immerse himself in a simple and minimal yet overwhelming visual experience created by the interplay of light and water.

This carousel is made from red and white ropes patterned in-house at Studio Wieki Somers. Plastic pulley blocks, fire hoses, and metal weights were used to make the mechanism, which is simple to use – just pull on the rope, hang the coat and fasten the lock. The metal weights ensure that the hoisting up and down works automatically. Every visitor can hang jackets there. Magical.
