Shoes on a Wire in NYC

I took this picture in NYC this summer and I was wandering what it means...From a urban semiotic website I read that "Shoes on a Wire" is a well-known street semiotic that drugs are nearby and available for purchase. In New York City there is also a special sort of whistling Dealers use to communicate with each other and with their buyers.

Hussein Chalayan

Hussein Chalayan is a British/Turkish Cypriot fashion designer who graduated from Central Saint Martins. He is leader of contemporary fashion design, and twice named 'British Designer of the Year,'. He uses innovative materials, strange new pattern cuttings and progressive attitudes to new technology.
I've seen his exhibition in London at the Design Museum (last picture above) and it's been one of the most creative and inspiring exhibitions I've ever seen...

The hotel is alla hand maded by them and its an absolute beauty.
